How to make a wreath

Clockwise from top left: “Twigs collected on a family hike are all you need to start a wreath,” say The Wreath Recipe Book authors, Alethea Harampolis and Jill Rizzo; Dried hydrangea and gold pinecones give a wreath from The Bridgehampton Florist its East End spirit; This arrangement from The Wreath Recipe Book can be made using a honeysuckle frame adorned with holly branches; “Wreaths are the best way to represent your household character during the holiday season,” says The Bridgehampton Florist’s Michael Grim.

East End windmill
As coproprietor of The Bridgehampton Florist, Michael Grim appreciates the care that goes into decorating the East End’s many windmills.

Now that the craziness of summer is over, we can enjoy the slow changing of the seasons–the light shifts, summer fades into memories, and we move into the peaceful winter ahead. I love how there is something to look forward to every season, like the lifeguard chair being set up on Long Beach to mark the beginning of summer or the pumpkin stands that remind us that fall is coming. What I look forward to most at Christmas are our decorated historic windmills. I love how their lights make them dance and announce the arrival of a festive season ahead. Fruit Holiday Centerpiece

Use Fruit in Unexpected Ways

We surveyed the Hamptons’ top chefs, caterers, and décor experts to discover their tips for holiday entertaining. Here’s what they had to say…

“A great holiday decorating tip is to use real fruit. Combine a simple bowl of clementines with laurel leaves. Add lady apples, speckle pears, pomegranates, and clementines to evergreens on the mantle. Or, make a fruit and evergreen centerpiece that will bring the holiday spirit to your tabletops. Don’t forget—fruit adds magic to wreaths and swags, too.” – Michael Grim, The Bridgehampton Florist…continue to full article

Almost as beautiful as its hostess, Aerin

Almost as beautiful as its hostess, Aerin

The Veranda article featured a New Year’s luncheon in her family’s barn. Rustic was the look Aerin wanted to capture. It was a perfect match for the table cloth, wonderful wood chargers and china — all from the new home collection. By using evergreens, berries, pinecones and nuts, we gave Aerin the feeling she was after. I love how it turned out. More importantly she loved it. Take a look at the magazine on the news stands and also on-line. And make sure to visit Aerin’s own website for great ideas from Aerin on everything from entertaining, to decorating, to travel to great restaurants.

My friend Antonia thought she was coming over for a quiet dinner for two this weekend- but with the help of some of her great friends, I surprised her with an al fresco dinner party in the garden. Dinner was my Balsamic Roasted Beef and Parmesan Fennel Gratin, with vanilla ice cream drizzled with Limoncello for dessert. I asked Michael Grim from Bridgehampton Florist to help with the table setting, and I knew he would come up with something absolutely spectacular. Michael brought fresh figs and picked some fig leaves from my trees for the place settings, and he added small pots of yellow Rudebeckia as centerpieces for our dinner under the stars. It was a wonderful evening, and a gorgeous fall night! If you’re in a seasonal climate, don’t forget to enjoy these last glorious days of warm weather outside!

When Aerin Lauder, Style and Image director of Estée Lauder and Creative Director of her new luxury lifestyle brand AERIN, heads out to her house in the Hamptons each weekend in the summer, she knows a delightful surprise awaits her.
